Samuel Merritt University, formerly Samuel Merritt College, was founded in 1909 as a hospital school of nursing. It is a fully accredited institution of health sciences campus located on the Alta Bates Summit Medical Center Summit in Oakland, CA. Samuel Merritt offers a baccalaureate nursing and graduate degrees in nursing, physical therapy, physician assistant, occupational therapy, podiatry and medicine. The baccalaureate program in nursing is offered in collaboration with St. Mary's College of California in Moraga, Mills College and Holy Names University. Samuel Merritt University is an affiliate of Sutter Health Network and Alta Bates Summit Medical Center. Samuel Merritt is the sole provider of work and physical therapists and physician assistants and is a major source of nurses in the Greater East Bay.
