Nursing in Hawaii Community College
Hawaii Community College is a public institution, a commuter college co-education in Hilo, Hawaii on the island of Hawaii. It is one of ten branches of the University of Hawaii system anchored by the University of Hawaii at Manoa in Honolulu and is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. The campus is less than a mile from the University of Hawaii at Hilo. The two schools share some facilities, including library, classrooms and offices.
Upon completion of a Nurses' Aide course, and passing the OBRA certification exam for Nurses' Aides, students may enroll in the Adult Residential Care Home Operator (CHO) courses. As of Spring 2009, the CHO requirements will be increased to 4 credits;. Upon completing the prescribed CHO course work, students will be eligible for licensure by the State Department of Health as a Care Home Operator.
Upon request, students who have completed the HawCC non-credit Nurses' Aide course may convert it to 8 credits (NURS 16) towards earning a Certificate of Completion in CHO. As of Fall 2005, due to changes in the number of hours in the Nurses' Aide course, students will need to take additional credits in order to earn the Certificate of Completion in CHO. Interested Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses can enroll in the Nurs 15 course to prepare for licensing as Care Home Operators. More info - http://www.hawaii.hawaii.edu/nursing/
