Grambling State University School of Nursing

The mission of the Grambling State University School of Nursing Baccalaureate Program. The graduate competencies are derived from the philosophy of the School of Nursing. Within the framework of the nursing process, the graduate is expected to demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Synthesize theoretical and empirical knowledge from the humanities, and the physical, biological, and behavioral sciences with nursing theory and practice.
  • Promote adaptation along the continuum of wellness to illness for multiple client systems throughout the life cycle in a variety of settings.
  • Utilize the teaching/learning process to promote optimal health for multiple client systems.
  • Collaborate with other health team members to promote wellness of various client systems.
  • Exhibit responsibility for life-long learning to enhance the present and future practice of nursing.
  • Evaluate research for the applicability of its findings to nursing practice.

Special admission rules and conditions are applicable to permit RNs and LPNs to enter the professional program. Certain challenge examinations permit students to receive credit for knowledge already attained. Publications are available with additional information.

Grambling State University

Grambling State University is a black history (HBCU), public, coeducational university located in Grambling, Louisiana. The university is home to the legendary football coach Eddie Robinson and is on the Louisiana African American Heritage Trail. A constituent member of the University of Louisiana system, GSU is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Its educational programs are offered by a college graduate and undergraduate research and four colleges: Arts and sciences, business, education and professional studies. The university offers 64 programs leading to certification, associate's, bachelor's, master's and doctorate. The university offers the only doctorate in development education in the nation. Grambling State was founded in 1901 and accredited in 1949. The school became Grambling College in 1946 the name of a sawmill owner, PGGrambling, who gave a plot of the school building. With the addition of graduate departments, Grambling gained university status in 1974.
