Clinical Nursing Programs in Bemidji State University (BSU)
Bemidji State University (BSU) is a public university in the State at Bemidji, Minnesota, USA, located on the shores of Lake Bemidji. It is a part of the Minnesota Colleges and Universities (MnSCU). BSU was founded in 1919 as Bemidji State Normal School. The name was later changed to Bemidji State Teachers College, then returned to Bemidji State College and finally Bemidji State University. During the 1998-1999 school year, the Board of Governors of the University recommended changing the name of the University of Minnesota State University - Bemidji, as Moorhead State University and Mankato State University changed its name to Minnesota State University-Moorhead and Minnesota State University-Mankato, respectively.
The board argued it would emphasize the fact that BSU was a Minnesota university and thus attract more students in both the state (which otherwise would not know it was located in Minnesota) and out-of-state (which saw Minnesota as a state in which many attend university). Great writing and vocal opposition of students, alumni and local residents made the Commission to withdraw the recommendation. Current enrollment is about 5,000
